Age of Worms

Feeling more confident about themselves, the party of heroes leaves the temple of Hextor to check out the other 2 nearby temples. Reading about the Faceless One and the temple of Vecna in Theldrick’s journal entices the explorers to head there next. Theldrick even had a key that unlocked the door leading to the labyrinth of Vecna. The heroes slowly make their way into the labyrinth that protects the temple of Vecna, searching very carefully the walls and floor of the opening corridor. Half way down the hall Garrett notices the door right in front of him open soundlessly and a strange bird-like man looks out. The heroes charge into the guard room of the temple of Hextor to be greeted by cult fanatics with spears to hold them at bay and skeletons dressed in rusty plate mail. More of the red skinned Tiefling guards come out to meet them and one darts down the hall to warn others of the intrusion. The party effectively engages the room of guards. Half way into the battle they see the same fleet-footed guard runs past them down another corridor shouting warnings to his comrades. Shortly thereafter they see a Dire Boar come charging around the corner focusing on the combat. Indiscriminately the Dire Boar charges into the fray, trampling anyone in its way. After finding out from the Innkeeper that Balabar Smenk was the one who came and claimed Filge, the group decided that it was time to meet with this notorious mine manager. Roma, the indentured servant to Balabar, went to see if the group could strike a deal with him, and Tyrrich kept an eye on the place from a distance. Soon after Roma and announce his intentions at the front gate to Balabar’s manor, Tyrrich was approached by a thug and asked if he also would join them. Reluctantly Tyrrich agreed. Inside they had a seat in a modest office where Balabar arrived to greet them. Balabar praised them for their accomplishments in the Whispering Cairn and besting his thugs. Victorious after their battle with Filge the party sets to interrogate him and “sanitize” the observatory. They learn that he was brought here by Balabar Smenk, an old acquaintance of his, to research some undead activity in the area and also strange happenings in the Dourstone mines. They decide to keep him alive for now and lock him in a room at the Feral Dog and pay someone to watch him. With that they head back to the Land farmstead to bury the bones of Alastor’s family and then to the Whispering Cairn to see if the ghost of Alastor was able to open the door he promised. The band of adventurers head back to Diamond Lake to see if they can get some information out of Kullen and gang. Roma and Tyrrich know that he spends most nights at the Feral Dog, but that he has also been in a bad mood as of late. Arriving at the Feral Dog there are attempts to listen in on conversations, but this passive approach yields very little. Annoyed with the lack of information the Priestess of Wee Jas steps up to the Half-Orc Kullen and demands to know what he did with the bone from the Land farmstead. A fight ensues. The group manages to kill the Fighter, subdue Kullen, and force the Ranger to surrender. The mage was not at the Feral Dog. They take Kullen to an abandoned warehouse along the lake f
