The Whispering Cairn, Part 5
Edit: These are posts I made back in 2005-2006 and have now transferred them here.
- Tyrrich – Elven, Rogue 1, Warlock 1 (male).
- Garrett – Gnome, Druid 2 (male).
- Cullen – Elven, Monk 2 (male).
- Roma - Half Orc, Rogue 1, Barbarian 1 (male).
- Janna – Human, Cleric 2 (Wee Jas) (female).
The band of adventurers head back to Diamond Lake to see if they can get some information out of Kullen and gang. Roma and Tyrrich know that he spends most nights at the Feral Dog, but that he has also been in a bad mood as of late.
Arriving at the Feral Dog there are attempts to listen in on conversations, but this passive approach yields very little. Annoyed with the lack of information the Priestess of Wee Jas steps up to the Half-Orc Kullen and demands to know what he did with the bone from the Land farmstead. A fight ensues.
The group manages to kill the Fighter, subdue Kullen, and force the Ranger to surrender. The mage was not at the Feral Dog. They take Kullen to an abandoned warehouse along the lake for questioning. From their interrogation the party finds out that Kullen and his group of thugs was hired by a Necromancer named Filge to bring him some skeletons. Since they couldn’t go to the boneyard, they searched some old farmsteads to see if any had their own private graveyards. They found one that did, but it also had an Owlbear who didn’t appreciate them being so close.
After questioning, the group went back to Allustan’s house where they spent the night. The next day they headed up to the old Twilight Monastery where they were told Filge was using as his residence. Janna told the group she was getting a strong undead presence inside the observatory. The group headed in with caution. Inside they witnessed many acts of morbid sacrilege that clued them in on what kind of person they were dealing with. As they made their way up to the top of the observatory an alarm was sounded that alerted all within to their presence. Rushing up the last flight of stairs they came face-to-face with Filge and his undead monstrosities.
As the battle ensues, Filge has his undead minions break through their glass tanks and attack the group while he pelts them with spells. As a testament to their skill and determination the heroes defeat Filge, taking him alive for questioning, while dispatching his undead minions.
End of chapter 5.
